Launched over a decade ago, the research training program offers over a dozen participants the opportunity to learn about brain and nervous systems research. The program focuses on neurological disorders and healthcare disparities and seeks to provide research and career development opportunities for Native American students, along with students from other underrepresented communities. Interns work with mentors in the NINDS Division of Intramural Research, where they are immersed in basic, translational, and clinical research.

Roth Fellowship for CAEBV-HV Research
The Roth Fellowship for CAEBV-HV Research was established in 2014 to support a two-year fellowship in the laboratory of Jeffrey I. Cohen, M.D., Chief of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases and Chief of the Medical Virology Section at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The fellow conducts research to accelerate efforts in finding new drugs to treat Chronic Active Epstein Barr Virus (CAEBV), a life-threatening condition in which the body fails to properly control Epstein-Barr virus infection, and Epstein Barr Virus-Hydroa Vacciniforme (HV), a rare skin disorder that causes blisters and scars when a person is exposed to the sun, as well as to understand genetic causes of the diseases that can lead to new treatments.
