The Pew Charitable Trusts worked through the Foundation for NIH to award grants totaling $225,000 to three postdoctoral fellows at NIH. The Pew Latin American Fellows Program in Biomedical Sciences aims to help develop a generation of highly trained researchers who can stimulate and contribute to the growth of important biomedical research and to foster collaboration between scientists in Latin America and the United States.

The Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act of 2002 provided for the testing of drugs that had been approved for adult use and that are used to treat children, but had not been tested for children.

Completed Programs, Program

Improving the health and well being of HIV-positive and at-risk youth is the goal of the Physical/Psychosocial Advocacy & Treatment For HIV Youth Program (PATH). This multi-disciplinary collaboration of experienced HIV researchers and care providers was established by Children’s Memorial Hospital and Howard Brown Community Health Center to conduct research on the north side of Chicago.

Completed Programs, Past Programs

This program provides a model for teaching increased physical activity and good nutritional practices to children with disabilities. Children participating in the eight-week program are provided with a mentor who trains them and provides guidance on healthy living and behaviors. Students who have completed the program are awarded The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award certificate.
