Life Stage

I Can Do It, You Can Do It

This program provides a model for teaching increased physical activity and good nutritional practices to children with disabilities. Children participating in the eight-week program are provided with a mentor who trains them and provides guidance on healthy living and behaviors. Students who have completed the program are awarded The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award certificate. This special mentoring program has been tested in two studies and found to be very effective in changing the physical activity of participants. With $225,000 in support from the private sector, the Foundation for NIH has awarded and oversees grants to community-based institutions implementing the I Can Do It, You Can Do It program.
