Sallie Rosen Kaplan Fellowship for Women Scientists in Cancer Research

The Sallie Rosen Kaplan Fellowship for Women Scientists in Cancer Research Award honors the memory of Sallie Kaplan, who held an abiding interest in education and in expanding opportunities for women. Her desire to make a lasting contribution to NIH and to the professional enhancement of women inspired a bequest to the Foundation for NIH, which now administers the endowment for this annual award. Annually, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) holds a national competition to name one or more new postdoctoral scholars Sallie Rosen Kaplan Fellows. Kaplan Fellows receive augmented stipends to support their research training.

"By encouraging and enhancing the productivity of a developing cancer researcher, this award gives a scientist-who might otherwise be less likely to continue in research-the opportunity to complete her project successfully. Through this award, we are contributing to the NCI's mission of achieving a future in which all cancers are uncommon and easily treated."
