Dr. Martin J. Murphy, Jr. is Founding Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AlphaMed Consulting, Inc., a corporation that provides strategic support for academic cancer centers, and cancer drug development programs of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Founding Executive Editor of the international, peer-reviewed journal, The Oncologist, read by more than 21,000 physicians entrusted with cancer patient care. Founder and Executive Editor of Stem Cells, a scientific journal, distinguished by more than two decades of publishing excellence.
Founder and former Chief Executive Officer of the Hipple Cancer Research Center, Dr. Murphy was professor of medicine and principal investigator of $21 million of grants and research contracts, author of more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, editor of a score of books and chapters, and is a sought after speaker.
Dr. Murphy is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of A.M. Pappas & Associates, chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of ArraDx, Ltd., a biotech company developing prognostic assays as well as anti-cancer drugs in Craigavon, Northern Ireland. He is a member of the board of trustees of the American Cancer Society Foundation, a charter member of C-Change co-chaired by former President George Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush. Dr. Murphy is convener of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, founded by Robert A. Ingram at the request of former President Bush. The CEO Roundtable, chaired by William Weldon of Johnson & Johnson, numbers among its members the chief executives of more than 40 of America’s greatest companies.
Dr. Murphy has been married for 40 years to Dr. Ann Murphy, president of AlphaMed Press. They have five children and seven grandchildren. In 2003, an Taoiseach Bertie Ahern presented Dr. Murphy with his Irish citizenship. His forbearers are from Achill Island, County Mayo.
