PUBLICATIONS POLICY

It is the intent of the GAIN Steering Committee that beginning on the date that a GAIN Project Dataset (the genotype data or genotype-phenotype datasets along with pre-computed analyses of them) is released for distribution through the GAIN Database located within dbGaP, there be a period of nine months during which Contributing Study Investigators retain the exclusive right to submit publications based on the relevant GAIN Project Dataset developed with the data and samples they contributed. During this nine-month period, Approved Users will have access to data in the GAIN Database.

Through the Data Use Certification document, Approved Users will agree not to submit for presentation or publication any results or analyses derived from the use of any given GAIN Project Dataset within a specified nine-month timeframe (submission of publications using GAIN genotype data that may be available through the public section of the GAIN Database is permissible during this period). The end-date of the nine month period for the specific GAIN Project Dataset will be specified within the GAIN Database each time that a GAIN Project Dataset is posted. The nine-month time period may not be applicable or may be shortened for specific GAIN Project Datasets if indicated in the GAIN Database or if written consent from the Contributing Study Investigator is obtained.

Any investigator using GAIN genotype data or GAIN Project Datasets shall acknowledge GAIN, the Contributing Study Investigator(s), and the funding organization that supported the contributing study in any resulting oral or written presentation, disclosure, or publication of the analyses. The acknowledgment of GAIN shall include reference to the GAIN Database.

Following the conclusion of the nine-month period for a given GAIN Project Dataset, Approved Users may submit papers for publication on GAIN data for any purpose consistent with the policies and practices of GAIN, the FNIH, and the NIH.
