PARTNERSHIPS

GAIN is a unique public-private partnership involving the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the private sector. Participating institutes within the NIH partnership include the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) of the National Library of Medicine, and the many other NIH Institutes and Centers that are supporting the project scientifically.
Private sector partners play an essential role in GAIN, participating both as funders and as scientific advisors.

Private sector contributions support genotyping, development and maintenance of the central database that will house GAIN data, and project management.  Through their generous commitments of resources and scientific insights to this initiative, GAIN Partner Organizations are helping to revolutionize the future practice of medicine through discovery of more precise methods to diagnose, treat, and prevent disease. GAIN’s private sector partners include Pfizer, Inc., of New York City, Affymetrix, Inc., of Santa Clara, Calif., as well as Perlegen Sciences, Inc., of Mountain View, Calif., Abbott, of Abbott Park, Ill., and the Broad Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. See Press Release.

The Foundation for NIH is actively seeking additional partners, and encourages other industry leaders, disease advocacy groups, and philanthropists to participate in GAIN.  For further information about becoming a GAIN partner, please contact Julie Wolf-Rodda at jwolf-rodda@fnih.org.
